Dodgers Highlights: L.A. Franchise Record For Doubles, Mookie Betts’ Assist Vs. Pirates

The Los Angeles Dodgers bounced back from a futile offensive performance to pound out 15 hits in an 11-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Of the Dodgers’ hits on the night, 10 went for extra bases. Included in that was tying an L.A. franchise record with eight doubles. They were led by Justin Turner going 4-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored and four RBI.

However, it was Trea Turner who got the Dodgers going early. While Ben Gamel made a diving catch to rob Turner in the series opener, Trea Turner’s line drive skipped off his glove for an RBI double in the first inning.

Justin Turner added a two-out drive that landed out of Gamel’s reach in left-center field for his own run-scoring double in the first inning.

An extra-base hit by Trea Turner and Max Muncy’s walk put two on for Justin Turner in the third inning, and he delivered a two-run double. Tuesday was Turner’s first game with multiple extra-base hits since Sept. 13, 2021.

Edwin Ríos plated Turner with his second single of the game, and Austin Barnes’ two-run double capped off the big inning. It was the sixth time this season Dodgers scored at least five runs in a single inning.

Already with a comfortable lead, L.A. further blew the game open in the seventh. Turner’s third double of the game scored Muncy, Cody Bellinger followed with an extra-base hit of his own, and Ríos hit a home run for the second consecutive night.

Dodgers pitching

While the Dodgers lineup garnered headlines for the collective performance, Tony Gonsolin led a strong pitching performance with five scoreless innings.

Gonsolin was aided by Mookie Betts throwing out Gamel at home plate on his attempt to tag. The outfield assist was Betts’ second in as many games. It was a highlight for Betts, who had his hitting streak was snapped at 10 games.
