Dodgers Vs. Rockies Game Preview: James Outman Makes MLB Debut, Mookie Betts Starting At 2nd Base

After taking two of the first three games at Coors Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to clinch a series win in Sunday’s series finale against the Colorado Rockies.

Tony Gonsolin makes his 19th start and hopes to bounce back after being handed his first loss of the season by the Washington Nationals. The right-hander allowed four runs on six hits, issued three walks and collected four strikeouts over six innings pitched.

According to STATS LLC, it marked the first time in the Modern Era (since 1900) that a pitcher with an 11-0 record or better lost to a team that went into the day with the worst record in baseball.

Gonsolin enters at 11-1 with a 2.26 ERA, 3.52 FIP and 0.88 WHIP in 99.2 innings pitched. He is 1-1 with a 5.00 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in two career appearances against the Rockies (one start).

Colorado counters with Germán Márquez, who tries to build on an excellent outing against the Chicago White Sox. He gave up only one run and seven hits while collecting six strikeouts in six innings of work.

Márquez owns a 6-8 record, 5.25 ERA, 4.69 FIP and 1.43 WHIP with 91 strikeouts against 38 walks in 109.2 innings pitched this season (19 starts). In 14 career starts against the Dodgers, he is 2-3 with a 3.56 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 81 innings.

James Outman, who was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to first pitch on Saturday, is making his MLB debut, hitting ninth and playing right field.

Mookie Betts is batting in his usual leadoff spot but starting at second base. It’s just his fourth appearance at the position this season.

Prior to the game the Dodgers added Chris Martin to their active roster and optioned Jake Reed to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Martin was acquired on Saturday in a trade that sent Zach McKinstry to the Chicago Cubs.
