In addition to recalling Julio Urias from Triple-A Oklahoma City, the Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of relief pitcher Grant Dayton. Zach Walters was optioned to Oklahoma City, and Chris Hatcher was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to create room for Dayton on the 40-man roster.

The earliest Hatcher can be activated from the DL is Sept. 18, at which point the Dodgers will have 14 regular-season games remaining on their schedule. Walters was called up over the weekend and went 0-for-5 in three games (one start).

The Dodgers acquired Dayton from the Miami Marlins on July 15, 2015, in exchange for Chris Reed. Dayton reached Triple-A last season but began this year with Double-A Tulsa.

He posted a 3.45 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and had 28 strikeouts over 15.2 innings pitched in 12 games. With Oklahoma City, the 28-year-old Dayton recorded three saves and posted a 2.51 ERA and 0.84 WHIP over 23 games.

He had a combined 2.44 ERA in 35 relief appearances and struck out 85 of 183 batters faced this season. Dayton will wear No. 75 and make his Major League debut whenever he enters a game. At that point he will also become the 25th different pitcher used by the Dodgers this season.

Los Angeles set a franchise record last season with 31 pitches used. Thursday’s roster moves again gives the club eight relievers and a four-man bench.
