Ahead of Thursday’s series opener against the Colorado Rockies, the Los Angeles Dodgers activated Ross Stripling off the 10-day disabled list and optioned Pat Venditte to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Stripling is set to start Thursday night at Coors Field after missing the last couple weeks due to a toe injury. In his last outing on July 29, Stripling pitched just four innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out five and walking one.
Overall in 27 games (16 starts) this season, Stripling is 8-3 with a 2.68 ERA, 3.07 FIP and 1.14 WHIP while striking out 119 and walking just 15 in 104 innings.
He was named to the National League All-Star team for the first time in his career. Since the All-Star break he dealt with a bit of fatigue and the toe injury. The Dodgers are optimistic the time off will rejuvenate the right-hander for the rest of the season.
Venditte has been back and forth between Oklahoma City and the big leagues with plenty of frequency this season. His latest stint with the Dodgers lasted just two days, and he did not make an appearance.
Venditte has struggled a bit in his few appearances with the Dodgers, yielding an 8.31 ERA, 5.69 FIP and 2.08 WHIP with four strikeouts and one walk in 4.1 innings across five games.
Venditte has been nails at the Triple-A level though, pitching to a 1.68 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 42 appearances. He has struck out 59 and walked 14 in 48.1 innings.
