The 2019 MLB Draft begins Monday, June 3, and will run through Wednesday, June 5. The opening night will be televised nationally on MLB Network and can be streamed online at MLB.com. The second and third days, consisting of rounds 3-10 and 11-40, respectively, will only be available on MLB.com.

The first night of the draft will consist of the first and second rounds along with free agent compensation picks and competitive balance rounds. The Los Angeles Dodgers will make the final selection of the night at 78th overall.

They received that pick after Yasmani Grandal rejected their qualifying offer and signed with the Milwaukee Brewers in free agency.

The Dodgers once again pick towards the end of the first round after making the postseason for the sixth straight year. They will actually have two first round picks, at Nos. 25 and 31 overall, because they were unable to sign their top pick in 2018.

J.T. Ginn, a high school pitcher out of Mississippi, opted to play college baseball at Mississippi state instead even though the Dodgers reportedly offered him a $2.4 million signing bonus.

As for the Dodgers’ strategy this year, they will simply go for the best player available on their draft board, according to president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.

The last time the Dodgers had two first round picks, they selected high school shortstop Gavin Lux and University of Louisville catcher Will Smith in 2016.

Lux is now the team’s no. 2 prospect per MLBPipeline.com while Smith, the team’s no. 5 prospect, made his Dodgers debut last week and is having a memorable first week in the Majors.

His third MLB start ended with his first career home run on Saturday, beating the Philadelphia Phillies in walk-off fashion.
