Voting for the 2019 MLB All-Star Game in Cleveland began Tuesday morning, with the ballot officially shifting to a new format that was first unveiled in March.
“The Primary” round of fan voting opened at 11:00 a.m., giving fans around the world an opportunity to start casting their votes exclusively online and via mobile devices at MLB.com, all 30 team websites, MLB At Bat and MLB Ballpark apps, and via Google Search (U.S. and Canada only).
The first round of voting concludes at 1:00 p.m. PT on Friday, June 21. Later that evening, the top three vote-getters at each position (and top nine outfielders) in each League will be revealed on MLB Network, and they will move on to the second phase of voting.
During “The Primary” voting round, fans can submit up to five ballots per 24-hour period on MLB platforms, and can vote for every position, or up to 17 unique players per day on Google.
“The Starters Election” begins at 9:00 a.m. PT on Wednesday, June 26. During this period, fans will have an opportunity to vote among the finalists at each position during a 28-hour window that closes at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27. Results from “The Starters Election” will be announced at 4:00 p.m. that evening on ESPN.
During the second phase of voting, fans can vote once on MLB platforms and submit up to 17 unique player votes on Google. Vote totals will reset (i.e., votes from “The Primary” do not carry over) and the winner at each position (including three outfielders per League) will be named a starting position player for the 2019 All-Star Game.
The American League All-Star Team, which will be managed by Alex Cora of the Boston Red Sox, will have nine elected starters via the fan balloting program. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts will again lead the National League team, with his roster due to have eight fan-elected starters.
Pitchers and reserve players for both All-Star Game rosters (24 for the NL and 23 for AL) will be determined through a combination of “Player Ballot” choices and selections made by the Commissioner’s Office. Entire All-Star Game rosters will be announced Sunday, June 30, at 2:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.
The Dodgers had three players reach the All-Star Game last season, including former left fielder Matt Kemp as a starter. In 2017, Justin Turner set a record with 20.8 million votes to become a first-time All-Star via the Final Vote process that’s now defunct.
