Freeway Series Preview: Dodgers’ Noah Syndergaard Starts Against Former Angels Team

The Los Angeles Dodgers received a dominant performance from Clayton Kershaw and saw their offense provide three solo home runs in a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels in the Freeway Series opener at Dodger Stadium.

The exhibition now shifts to Angel Stadium for the final two games before the Dodgers return home for an Opening Day matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Noah Syndergaard takes the mound for his final tuneup of the spring. He’s looking to bounce back from his worst Cactus League outing against the San Francisco Giants that saw him allow six runs on six hits across 4.1 innings pitched.

The right-hander discussed his struggles after the game and revealed he has been dealing with blister issues. However, he is not expected to miss any time and will be included on the Dodgers Opening Day roster.

Syndergaard enters at 1-2 with a 4.61 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in 13.2 innings pitched this spring (four games, three starts). He went 10-10 with a 3.94 ERA, 3.83 FIP and 1.26 WHIP in 25 games (24 starts) between the Angels and Philadelphia Phillies last season.

The Angels counter with Tyler Anderson, who looks to close the book on an impressive Spring Training. He has tossed eight scoreless innings over two starts thus far.

The left-hander is coming off an All-Star 2022 season with the Dodgers in which he went 15-5 with a 2.57 ERA, 3.31 FIP and 1.00 WHIP across 178.2 innings pitched (30 games, 28 starts).

“Seeing Tyler and Noah go against each other’s former team is sort of fun,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said before the game.
