Just as they did at the non-waiver trade deadline last season, the Los Angeles Dodgers are poised to add another impact player this July, though it won’t take them up to the final buzzer. By all accounts the Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles will complete a Manny Machado trade in the coming days.
Machado will fill a need for the Dodgers, who have been without Corey Seager since he underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery in May. That they were able to find an answer from the Orioles is a notable accomplishment in its own right.
Baltimore historically has been difficult to conduct business with at the trade deadline because of their indecision and reluctance to be sellers despite not fielding a team that’s in contention.
While the trade has seemingly reached the final stages, the Orioles were at least thought to be hesitant to make it official prior to the All-Star Game, considering Machado is their lone representative.
He’s fielded several questions about his future and during the Midsummer Classic had some fun with friend and expected new teammate Matt Kemp. After leading off the second inning with a double, Kemp was approached by Machado for a selfie.
The two posed and shared a quick laugh before play continued.
