Ernie Clement Thought Of World Series When Taking Hit Away From Andy Pages In 2026 MLB All-Star Game

The American League defeated the National League, 4-0, in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, and it was dominant pitching that carried them to victory.

The NL picked up just three hits and two walks en route to being shut out, but Andy Pages nearly had a single in the fifth inning. Instead, the ball was fielded by Ernie Clement as he was running past the left side of second base, and he made a jumping, Derek Jeter-like throw to take away a hit from Pages.

The All-Star Game play came less than a year after Pages robbed Clement of a game-winning hit in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers.

With a tie ballgame and two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth inning, Clement sent a ball to the left-center field warning track that Pages chased down, tackling Kiké Hernández in the process, as one of the most memorable catches in MLB history.

“I had to get him back for what he did to us in the World Series,” Clement said of his All-Star Game play. “It’s all love. I have a lot of admiration for the way he plays the game. Pages seems like such a good dude, and he made one of the best plays in postseason history and World Series history, given the circumstances. Just getting him back a little bit. It felt pretty good.”

The Dodgers went on to win the World Series after Pages took away what would have been the game-winner for the Blue Jays, and the AL went on to win after Clement took away the hit from Pages. Due to the importance of each play and the outcomes provided, Clement wishes they were reversed.

“I was kind of pointing at him, just so he knows that I know that I kind of got him back,” Clement said. “But I would’ve loved for it to be the other way around.”

Pages ended up going 0-for-2 with a strikeout in his first career All-Star Game appearance, and Clement was also hitless in two at-bats.

Dodgers in MLB All-Star Game

Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy and Justin Wrobleski joined Pages as the Dodgers to appear in the game.

Freeman went 0-for-1 with a walk, while Muncy went 0-for-2. Wrobleski pitched two innings, picking up five strikeouts but allowing a home run to former Dodgers’ infielder Miguel Vargas.

Yoshinbou Yamamoto did not pitch after starting on Saturday, and Shohei Ohtani was unavailable after undergoing a procedure to drain fluid from his left knee.

Former Dodgers star Cody Bellinger was named the All-Star Game MVP after driving in two runs with a single.
