The Los Angeles Dodgers are mired in a second three-game losing streak in the past week and look to snap that by avoiding being swept by the Milwaukee Brewers. Overall, L.A. has lost 10 of their last 13 games.
They have fallen into a tie with the San Diego Padres for second place in the National League West standings, with both teams trailing the San Francisco Giants by a half-game. “Obviously a little frustration, but we understand it’s a long season and we can get it back rolling,” Mookie Betts said of the Dodgers’ recent struggles.
“But we can’t keep wasting time. It’s kind of two fold. It is a long season, but also you have to be there for each and every game, and we haven’t been lately.”
Julio Urias takes the mound in the four-game series finale and looks to bounce back from a bit of a rough outing. He only managed to pitch five innings against the Cincinnati Reds last week after going seven shutout frames and setting a career high with 11 strikeouts.
The Dodgers are in desperate need of length from Urias, having just completed back-to-back bullpen games.
Alex Bettinger starts for the Brewers in what’s his MLB debut. Bettinger takes the spot of Corbin Burnes as he was placed on the 10-day injured list for an unspecified reason.
Bettinger spent all of last year at the Brewers’ alternate training site, and in 2019 went 5-7 with a 3.44 ERA and 1.07 WHIP for Double-A Biloxi during the 2019 season.
As expected, the Dodgers placed May on the 10-day injured list with a right arm injury and purchased Mike Kickham’s contract.
