Dodgers News: Tyler Glasnow Experienced ‘Discomfort’ After Bullpen Session

The Los Angeles Dodgers are more than one-third into the 2025 season and have a starting rotation that remains without Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki and Shohei Ohtani.

While the Dodgers have seemingly been planning on Ohtani not pitching until after the All-Star Game, they certainly could not have envisioned a reality where their other top starters also have missed an extended amount of time without a return in sight.

For Glasnow, he advanced to throwing a bullpen session on May 23, but that did not lead to continued progression in his recovery.

“We’re on pause right now. Or not pause; he’s playing catch,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts began. “I’m not sure when he’s going to get back on a mound. Our hope is that it will be soon.”

When asked if Glasnow experienced trouble after that bullpen session, Roberts answered, “He had some discomfort and at that moment in time we pushed pause.”

Roberts further clarified it was “just overall body not responding” and not Glasnow’s throwing shoulder that became the issue.

Glasnow was put on the 15-day injured list on April 28 due to right shoulder inflammation. That came the day after he left a start in the second inning. It was a second time this season that Glasnow had an outing cut short because of a health issue, with the first instance being lower leg cramps.

“I say this speaking for him, I now he’s just frustrated as we all are as far as the process since we’ve had him hasn’t been linear as far as getting him back,” Roberts said.

“He wants to get back and help. Threw his one ‘pen and then body didn’t respond, so we’re trying to figure out when we can ramp him back up. He’s chomping at the bit, so that’s a good thing. I know he’s very anxious to get back out here and help his team.”

Glasnow was transferred to the 60-day injured list, which made Friday, June 27, the earliest he can return.

Dodgers, Tyler Glasnow searching for answers

In the weeks after Glasnow was placed on the injured list, he and the Dodgers have alluded to being uncertain over what’s caused his physical ailment. That’s created not only plenty of confusion but also frustration.

“My position is, when you have somebody that is complaining about things — certainly a pitcher — you’re very cautious to prevent against any type of injury,” Roberts said in April. “So the things that I hear, the things that I see, it dictates my decision.

“In Spring Training he felt good with the new delivery, until he didn’t.”
