The New York Mets re-claimed left-handed pitcher P.J. Conlon off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles claimed Conlon from the Mets last week, but designated him for assignment in order to create room for Caleb Ferguson on the 40-man roster.

Conlon did not pitch a single inning for any of the Dodgers’ Minor League affiliates. The Mets
selected him in the 13th round of the 2015 Draft out of the University of San Diego. Conlon is from Belfast, Ireland, and is the first Irish-born player in the Major Leagues in over 100 years.

The 24-year-old had a solid 2017 campaign with Double-A Birmingham of the Mets organization, pitching to a 3.38 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 136 innings. Conlon was even better in 2016, when he yielded a 1.65 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 142 innings across two levels.

He made his MLB debut with the Mets earlier this season, although did not fare well in his first two big league starts. In a combined 5.2 innings, he allowed 12 hits and seven runs (11.12 ERA), while striking out and walking two, which prompted the Mets to part ways with him the first time.

Conlon has not had much success with Triple-A Las Vegas so far in 2018. In eight starts, he is 2-3 with A 6.58 ERA and 1.54 WHIP, with 33 strikeouts against 10 walks in 39.2 innings. He was optioned back to the affiliate after the Mets claimed him.

In order to make room for Ferguson on the 25-man roster, the Dodgers optioned Pedro Baez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
