Bobby Miller is among the Los Angeles Dodgers prospects expected to make their MLB debut during the 2023 season, but he has been slow-played to this point in Spring Training.

The former first-round draft pick has only progressed to throwing bullpen sessions in camp thus far, but now is poised to face batters and could eventually find himself pitching in a B game against players from another organization.

As for Miller potentially taking the mound in a Cactus League game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently ruled out the possibility. However, Roberts believes there is value in the 23-year-old being around the Dodgers’ veteran pitchers and absorbing as much knowledge as he can.

During an appearance on AM 570 L.A. Sports, Miller revealed he is feeling good and will face hitters for the first time this spring on Tuesday:

“I feel amazing right now. I was working with Ron (Porterfield) for a while, and he’s been getting me right, man. So I’m ready to go against hitters [Tuesday].”

Miller understands why the Dodgers have been cautious with him but noted it has been difficult not building up as fast as he wants to:

“Very patient. I mean, I’m always wanting to get out there as fast as I can. Just trying to be patient mentally in getting back out there. That’s really been the toughest part, is the patience. Now I’m finally coming back, so I’m super excited.”

Miller set a career high with 112 innings pitched for Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City last season, but did not make an appearance after September 21 due to an undisclosed reason.

The right-hander went a combined 6-6 with a 4.45 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 11.6 strikeouts per nine in 91 innings pitched between the Drillers and OKC (20 games, 19 starts). He also was among the Dodgers to participate in last year’s All-Star Futures Game.

Bobby Miller among Dodgers assigned to Minor League camp

The second round of Dodgers Spring Training roster cuts involved the likes of Miller, Diego Cartaya, Michael Busch, Jorbit Vivas and Eddys Leonard getting optioned. Jonny DeLuca, Andy Pages, Matt Andriese and Jahmai Jones were assigned to Minor League camp as well.
