The Los Angeles Dodgers still have top-end catching talent in the organization even after including Keibert Ruiz in their trade with the Washington Nationals, but depth at Triple-A Oklahoma City has run thin since his departure.

Trading Ruiz took the starting catcher away from OKC at a time Tim Federowicz also was not with the Dodgers’ top affiliate because of being with Team USA in the Tokyo Olympics. L.A. looked to fill the void by claiming Chad Wallach off waivers from the Miami Marlins last week.

However, Wallach only appeared in one game with Oklahoma City before being lost to the L.A. Angels on a waiver claim.

According to J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group, the Dodgers have now filled their Triple-A catching need by signing Tony Wolters to a Minor League contract:

The Dodgers signed veteran catcher Tony Wolters to a minor league contract.

Wolters had been playing in the Chicago Cubs’ farm system but was released this past week. The Cubs signed Wolters to a Major League contract at the end of March after he opted out of a Minor League deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

However, he only appeared in 14 games for the Cubs and twice was removed from their 40-man roster. Wolters made his MLB debut with the Colorado Rockies and appeared in 391 games with the team from 2016-2020.

Wolters was non-tendered by the Rockies and became a free agent after the 2020 season.

Dodgers call up Quackenbush

While Wolters is something of an MLB veteran joining Oklahoma City, the Dodgers just called up Kevin Quackenbush.

The right-hander has been with the organization since signing a Minor League contract in November 2018, and is back in the Majors for the first time since appearing in 10 games for the Cincinnati Reds three years ago.
