The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of Kevin Quackenbush and placed Darien Nuñez on the injured list prior to Saturday’s game against the L.A. Angels. Quackenbush was added to the 40-man roster in the wake of Chad Wallach being claimed off waivers by the Angels.

Quackenbush joined the Dodgers organization on a Minor League contract in November 2018. He spent the ensuing season with Triple-A Oklahoma City and has been with the Dodgers’ top affiliate all of this year as well.

Quackenbush and Will Smith represented the OKC Dodgers in the 2019 Triple-A All-Star Game. The right-hander has allowed only two earned runs, converted 14 of 15 save opportunities, and collected 33 strikeouts in 29.1 innings pitched across 30 games with OKC this season.

Quackenbush is back in the Majors for the first time since appearing in 10 games for the Cincinnati Reds during the 2018 season. The 32-year-old otherwise has pitched for the San Diego Padres during his stints in the Majors.

A designation was not given for Nuñez’s stint on the IL. He’s the second relief pitcher the Dodgers have lost in as many days, though in Jimmy Nelson’s case, that was due to season-ending Tommy John surgery and a right flexor tendon repair.

Nuñez was recalled on Wednesday as the corresponding move to Nelson initially just being put on the 10-day iL. The southpaw was in his third stint with the club.

Nuñez made his MLB debut earlier this season and is 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA in five games (one start) with L.A. Nuñez has otherwise split the 2021 season with Double-A Tulsa and OKC, going a combined 5-0 with a 2.55 ERA across 19 games.

The 28-year-old was signed by the Dodgers as a Minor League free agent on April 16, 2018.

Dodgers lineup with Trea

After making his Dodgers debut as a pinch-hitter on Friday night, Trea Turner is in the lineup — batting leadoff — for the second game of the Freeway Series.

Manager Dave Roberts suggested Turner is likely to remain in the leadoff spot moving forward, followed in the lineup by Max Muncy and Mookie Betts.
