The Los Angeles Dodgers’ recent shuffling of their bullpen amounted to Luis García being designated for assignment at the end of June.
The move corresponded to Noah Davis getting recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City and also made room on the team’s 40-man roster for Edgardo Henriquez to come off the 60-day injured list.
García cleared waivers and elected to become a free agent rather than accept an outright assignment to the Comets.
According to Andrew Golden of The Washington Post, the veteran reliever has found a new home after signing a Major League contract with the Washington Nationals:
The Nationals are signing reliever Luis Garcia to a major league deal, per sources, though the deal is still pending a physical.

The rebuilding Nationals are adding experience to their bullpen with García, who has pitched for seven teams in his 13-year MLB career. He has also been proved to be a mostly durable arm who is able to eat innings, something that provides value to any team.
García originally signed with the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2004 before being traded to the Nationals five years later. However, he did not make his MLB debut until the 2013 season as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.
García rejoined the Dodgers on a Minor League contract this past offseason. He was a mainstay in their bullpen until a right adductor strain sidelined him for one month.
At the time of his injury, García ranked second on the team in innings pitched and third in appearances. He went 2-0 with a 5.27 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 28 games for the Dodgers before getting designated for assignment.
Luis García’s MLB career
García is 28-28 with a 4.20 ERA, 3.97 FIP and 1.44 WHIP in 555.1 innings pitched across 573 career appearances (four starts).
He has seen time with the Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox and Dodgers.
