Dodgers Roster: Eddie Rosario Elects Free Agency

Eddie Rosario rejected an assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City after clearing waivers and now is a free agent. He held that right due to already being removed from a 40-man roster once before in his career.

Rosario was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers last week as the corresponding move to Shohei Ohtani being reinstated off the paternity list.

Rosario had his contract selected when Ohtani left the team for the birth of his daughter before the first game at Globe Life Field. Edgardo Henriquez was transferred to the 60-day injured list in order to make room for Rosario on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster.

Rosario was in the Dodgers lineup for their first two games against the Rangers, starting both as the designated hitter. He went hitless in his Dodgers debut and was 1-for-2 the following day.

The Dodgers signed Rosario in February to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invite to Spring Training. He didn’t make much of an impact during Cactus League play but got off to a hot start with the Oklahoma City Comets.

In 14 games before joining the Dodgers roster, Rosario hit .339/.406/.542 with six doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI. The veteran outfielder spent last season with the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals.

Considering his decision to elect free agency, it stands to reason Rosario has interest from other teams on a Major League contract or another Minor League deal but with a clearer opportunity to contribute.

Eddie Rosario’s history against Dodgers

Rosario put together a historic showing against the Dodgers in the 2021 National League Championship Series as he went 14-for-25 (.560) with one double, one triple, three home runs, nine RBI and three walks en route to earning MVP honors.
