Adam Kolarek recently cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City after being designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers to make room on their 40-man roster for Shelby Miller to return from bereavement leave.
Because Kolarek had previously been outrighted in his career, he had the right to refuse the Minor League assignment. The left-hander has thrown 2.2 scoreless innings in three appearances since returning to OKC.
While Dodgers put Kolarek on waivers as the corresponding move to reinstating Miller, the right-hander wound up on the 15-day injured list shortly after because of neck trouble. Kolarek had been recalled when L.A. optioned Andre Jackson to Oklahoma City earlier this month.
Jackson subsequently was designated for assignment and ultimately traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations.
Kolarek appeared in one game with the Dodgers, striking out two batters across 1.1 innings of work against the Philadelphia Phillies. He allowed one hit, which was a bloop single by Bryson Stott that scored two runs.
Kolarek went 0-3 with a 2.18 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 21 relief appearances for Oklahoma City prior to being added to the Dodgers roster. He pitched for L.A. during the 2019 and 2020 seasons as well.
Over parts of three years with the Dodgers, Kolarek has a 0.84 ERA, 3.08 FIP and 0.84 WHIP in 47 games.
Adam Kolarek history with Dodgers
The Dodgers originally acquired Kolarek from the Tampa Bay Rays at the 2019 MLB trade deadline in exchange for Minor League outfielder Niko Hulsizer.
After the 2020 season, the Dodgers traded Kolarek and Cody Thomas to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Sheldon Neuse and Gus Varland. Kolarek became a free agent after the 2022 season and was signed by the Dodgers to a Minor League contract.
In parts of seven MLB seasons, Kolarek is 11-4 with a 3.73 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 171 games.
