The Arizona Complex League (ACL) concluded its 2024 season on Monday with the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Rookie-level affiliate capturing the championship.
The ACL Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Rookie-level affiliate, 7-6, to complete a two-game sweep at Camelback Ranch.
The ACL Dodgers began postseason play by defeating the San Francisco Giants’ Rookie-level team, 7-1, in the semifinals. They followed that with an 8-1 win over the ACL Diamondbacks in the Game 1 of the Finals.
The Dodgers were trailing 2-0 after two and a half innings on Monday when they scored three runs to take the lead in the bottom of the third. Mairoshendrick Martinus and Joendry Vargas, the organization’s No. 11 prospect, hit back-to-back home runs.
The Diamondbacks evened the score in the top of the fourth, but the Dodgers went back ahead one inning later when Roger Lasso delivered a two-run single.
The Diamondbacks cut the deficit to one when Abdias De La Cruz hit a solo home run, but the Dodgers immediately responded with a two-run double from Lasso in the bottom of the seventh. Lasso finished 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBI.
The Diamondbacks scored two more runs on a double from Alexander Benua in the top of the ninth, but the Dodgers held on to clinch the title.
Dilan Figueredo earned the win after providing 2.2 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts. He was the only pitcher of either team to not allow a run in the game.
ACL Dodgers history
The ACL Dodgers won their third championship since relocating to Arizona in 2009, and it was their first in six years.
The team previously won four championships during their time in the Gulf Coast League (1983-1992, 2001-2008), which is now known as the Florida Complex League (FCL).
