Less than a week after designating him for assignment, the Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed Bobby Wahl to a Minor League contract.

The Dodgers claimed Wahl off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers at the end of June but he was removed from the 40-man roster last week in order to make room for Jimmie Sherfy.

Wahl has yet to pitch in a game for the Dodgers but did make two appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City, allowing three runs over one inning of work.

Prior to joining the Dodgers, the 29-year-old spent time with two of the Brewers’ Minor League affiliates, Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville, allowing a combined 11 runs over 10.1 innings pitched. He is 9-8 with a 3.80 ERA and 40-for-45 in save opportunities in 172 career Minor League games.

Wahl was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics out of the University of Mississippi. He made his debut with the A’s in 2017 and has also pitched for the New York Mets in addition to the Brewers.

Wahl last pitched in the Majors with the Brewers in 2020, posting an 11.57 ERA across three appearances. Overall, the right-hander is 0-2 with a 7.63 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in 17 big league games.

Dodgers waiver claims

Wahl and Sherfy are just a couple of the players the Dodgers have added via waiver claim in recent months as they look to bolster organizational depth.

The club previously claimed Phil Bickford from the Brewers as well, and he has thrived with the change of scenery, posting a 2.05 ERA, 2.49 FIP and 1.05 WHIP in 22 innings pitched over 23 games.

L.A. also claimed Yoshi Tsutsugo and Travis Blankenhorn from the Tampa Bay Rays and Minnesota Twins, respectively, although only the former remains in the organization. Blankenhorn was claimed by the Seattle Mariners in May and has since joined the New York Mets organization.
