As the Los Angeles Dodgers were looking to bolster the bullpen during the 2018 season, one of their initial moves was to claim Zac Rosscup off waivers from the Colorado Rockies. The left-hander was immediately added to the Dodgers’ active roster but soon landed on the injured list.

Rosscup went on to appear in 17 games for the Dodgers, going 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA, 4.13 FIP, 1.15 WHIP with 20 strikeouts against four walks in 11.1 innings pitched. He was particularly effective against left-handed hitters, holding them to a .143 batting average.

Rosscup additionally had a memorable appearance against the Seattle Mariners as he tossed an immaculate inning. Rosscup was released by the Dodgers last November and went on to sign a Major League deal with the Mariners.

After spending time with Seattle and the Toronto Blue Jays this season, he reunited with the Dodgers by signing a Minor League contract, according to Triple-A Oklahoma City communications director Alex Freedman:

#Dodgers signed old friend Zac Rosscup as a minor league free agent. He’ll be officially added to OKC’s roster tonight. Made 17 appearances for LAD last season. Has been with the Mariners and Blue Jays this season.

Rosscup was 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA and 1.93 WHIP over 19 games with the Mariners this season. He was designated for assignment May 17 as one of two corresponding roster moves the Mariners made when selecting the contract Ryan Garton and recalling Erik Swanson.

The Blue Jays claimed Rosscup off waivers less than one week later. He appeared in just two games for Toronto, allowing a combined four runs on three hits and two walks in one inning.

Although Rosscup is beginning his time in the Minors, he may find himself back on the Dodgers’ roster before long. The team has an apparent need for an effective left-handed reliever in light of Tony Cingrani undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery and Scott Alexander being placed on the 10-day injured list with forearm inflammation.

Caleb Ferguson was recalled from Oklahoma City to take the place of Alexander, and he collected three strikeouts over 1.2 innings against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Julio Urias is another option currently available to the Dodgers, though he’s been used as a multi-inning reliever as opposed to lefty specialist.
