Hurricane Harvey unleashed damage on the southeast portion of Texas previously unseen in United States history, and has continued to batter the region since first making landfall. Several organizations, professional athletes and teams have rallied together to provide aid to those impacted.
The Los Angeles Dodgers recently made a monetary donation and contributed thousands of blankets, while the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation will contribute proceeds from their in-game 50/50 raffle on Wednesday, Sept. 6, in support of the Houston Food Bank.
Houston native Scott Kazmir donated to four Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, and he was soon after joined by Curtis Granderson, Clayton and Ellen Kershaw, Brandon and Amanda McCarthy, Yasiel Puig, and Ross Stripling his fianceé Shelby.
According to TR Sullivan of MLB.com, Yu Darvish followed in the footsteps of his Dodgers teammates by pledging $100,000 through the Texas Rangers:
Yu Darvish made $100,000 donation thru Rangers’ fundraising efforts for Hurricane relief. Money will go to Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

Prior to being traded to the Dodgers, the Rangers were the only organization Darvish had known since making the jump from Japan. Naturally, the trade deadline made for an emotional time for the right-hander.
Darvish thanked Rangers fans in a full-page ad that was placed in The Dallas Morning News. The Rangers returned the favor with an ad in a Japanese newspaper.
The Houston community and surrounding areas continue to make some progress toward returning to some sense of normalcy. The Astros returned to Minute Maid Park over the weekend to play a doubleheader, and Texans defensive end J.J. Watt began to distribute food and basic necessities that were donated.
Representatives from the Los Angeles Dream Center and their other locations have been in Texas conducting rescue missions and helping rebuild homes.
