Dodgers News: Michael Grove Trying To Put Himself ‘In Best Position To Be Successful’

Micahel Grove made his MLB debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2022 season and proved to be a serviceable option over six starts.

The right-hander held a 4.60 ERA and 1.43 WHIP through 29.1 innings, but an expected ERA of 3.10 suggested he pitched better than the results show.

Grove now faces an uphill battle to make the roster with a deep pitching staff ahead of him, but he will likely be one of the first options the Dodgers call on when they need a pitcher who can go multiple innings.

With Spring Training games starting on Saturday, Grove is just focused on controlling what he can and improving himself, via :

“I think most of it is just with myself. I can’t really control the way the roster shakes out and all that. I got a couple of pitches I’m working on. I just want to put myself in the best position to be successful.”

Grove is in Spring Training with the Major League club for a third time since being selected by the Dodgers in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft. And now with his debut under his belt, is feeling more comfortable this time around:

“I think one of the biggest things is coming into the clubhouse, and you know all the guys already. It’s an intimidating place with some of the names that we have. Just being able to spend three or four weeks up last year, kind of get to know guys a little bit better, makes it a more comfortable setting.”

The 26-year-old previously appeared in two Cactus League games as a non-roster invitee to 2021 Spring Training, and one last year when he was in big league camp after being added to the Dodgers 40-man roster.

While in the Minors last season, Grove pitched to a combined 3.79 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 19 games (17 starts) with Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Michael Grove excited to start 2023 Spring Training opener

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Grove as the starter for the team’s Cactus League opener against the Milwaukee Brewers.

After spending time facing Dodgers teammates, Grove said he is excited about the opportunity and looks forward to working on a starter’s routine.
