The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Luis Ysla in a trade with the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations. Ysla will be optioned to Double-A Tulsa.
This marks a second minor trade in as many days for the Dodgers, as on Friday they acquired Luke Farrell from the Kansas City Royals. The right-hander was sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Ysla was designated for assignment by the Red Sox in a corresponding move on their 40-man roster to clear room for the arrival of Eduardo Nunez. Boston added Ysla to their 40-man roster last fall in advance of the 2016 Rule 5 Draft.
The 25-year-old has yet to reach the Majors and in addition to the Red Sox, previously spent time in the San Francisco Giants organization.
Ysla signed with the Giants as an international free agent in September 2012. He made 29 appearances with Boston’s Double-A Portland this season, going 1-5 with one save, a 5.05 ERA and 1.71 WHIP.
Ysla reached Triple-A Pawtucket last season, though only threw one inning in a single appearance. He’s a lifetime 16-23 with five saves, a 3.85 ERA, 160 walks and 374 strikeouts in 140 Minor League games (44 starts).
The Dodgers transferred Adrian Gonzalez to the 60-day disabled list to clear room for Ysla. Gonzalez, who is set to begin a rehab assignment next week, now cannot return until Aug. 12.
