The Los Angeles Dodgers mourned and paid tribute to Vin Scully after he passed away in August, with manager Dave Roberts, Clayton Kershaw and Justin Turner among those to reflect on the influence and significance the Hall of Fame broadcaster had on the organization.
Scully has remained in the hearts of players and fans alike, and for the final game of the 2022 regular season, Turner wore customized Adidas cleats that celebrated the longtime voice of the Dodgers.
It was another notable instance in which Turner used his cleats to honor others, as he also has regularly done so by partnering with patients from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to raise awareness for Pediatric Cancer month.
Turner’s blue cleats featured Scully’s face overlayed on the Dodgers logo on the outside of each foot; “VIN” with a microphone, halo and angel wings on the toe box; and a quote that expressed his love for hearing the fans cheer at a game.
When Scully passed away, Turner said, “He was the Dodgers. Growing up in Southern California, it didn’t matter where you were. If you heard that voice on the radio or TV, you knew the Dodgers were playing.”
While Turner developed a close relationship with Scully after signing with the Dodgers in 2014, their first introduction came during a series the New York Mets played at Dodger Stadium prior to that point.
“He came down the visiting clubhouse to say hi and told me he was a fellow redhead and us redheads have to stick together,” Turner recalled. “I thought it was crazy Vin Scully walked in the clubhouse to find me and say hi to me. That is something I’ll definitely never forget.”
Scully began his broadcasting career at the age of 22 and took over full-time with the Dodgers when Red Barber left the organization to join the New York Yankees after the 1953 season.
Scully’s illustrious career with the Dodgers spanned 67 seasons, from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, and included multiple World Series titles and endless list of awards. The latest of which was becoming the second recipient of the Baseball Digest Lifetime Achievement Award this past April.

Prior to Turner showing his respect for Scully, he was celebrated with a bobblehead night giveaway at Dodger Stadium. It was accompanied by Kourtney Turner singing the national anthem.
