Dodgers News: Gavin Lux ‘Trending In The Right Direction’

The Los Angeles Dodgers had their four-game hitting streak snapped with a 7-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, but Gavin Lux continued his recent hot streak at the plate.

The 26-year-old went 2-for-4 with a triple and now has at least one hit in seven of his last nine games. “Gavin’s a dynamic hitter,” manager Dave Roberts said.

“He’s got a lot of bat speed, he’s very twitchy, he looks over the baseball really well. So I think that to get a multi-hit game, pull the triple, leg out a triple, and then block a ball the other way, that’s kind of what we need from him.

“If he can do that, he’s going to drive runs in, he’s going to take walks and things like that. So I think that if you look at this last, call it 10 games, he’s hitting the ball a lot harder, taking much better at-bats, and it’s trending in the right direction.”

Lux has understandably gotten off to a slow start this season in what is his first big league action since 2022 after missing all of last year due to a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee.

Roberts previously estimated that Lux would need around 150 plate appearances to get back on track. “Yeah, I think so. He’s sort of right around, I think 140 plate appearances, so he’s right around that threshold,” Roberts said.

And I think that the last seven to 10 games, there’s a lot more consistency with Gavin. It takes a minute to get back to competing and playing. So I do think that what we’ve seen recently is something that he’ll sustain the rest of the way and even beyond.”

Lux is hitting .203/.255/.281 with three doubles, two triples, one home run and 12 RBI in 137 plate appearances over 37 games this season. Although he has struggled offensively, he is providing value with his glove at second base.

Gavin Lux: First home run since 2022 ‘felt really good’

Lux hit his first home run since 2022 earlier this month, which he believes was a step in the right direction.
