Gavin Lux was named National League Player of the Week for July 15-21, 2024, the first time in his career he’s received that honor.

He became the third Los Angeles Dodgers player to win the award this season.

The 26-year-old led the NL in total bases (13), tied for the NL lead in homers and extra-base hits (four), and tied for second in hits. Lux batted .556 with two doubles, two homers, three RBI, three runs scored and one stolen bases.

His uptick in play is a shade of how things can click right for Lux, and it comes at a time when Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said his second baseman needed it.

“It’s been great,” Roberts said. “I think he’s been finally having less sleepless nights. Each day he comes in there’s a little bit more confidence. I congratulated him earlier. That’s a nice honor and feather in your cap… I appreciate what he’s doing. He’s swinging the bat as well as he has in quite some time.”

On the season, Lux is batting .222 with 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 27 RBI, 31 runs scored and a .603 on-base plus slugging.

His three hits on Sunday tied his season high, that included a pair of extra-base hits. He also had a run of four consecutive at-bats with an extra-base hit, posting two doubles and two home runs during that stretch.

For Lux, the Dodgers desperately require him to find a level of consistency, allowing them to confidently slot him into second base on a regular basis without a drop-off in offense.

Gavin Lux is happy to ‘get some results’

Following the Dodgers’ series with the Red Sox, Lux expressed some prolonged frustration with his play this year, noting that results and positive feedback helps.

The mental grind doesn’t compare to the physical grind of a big league season, especially on a team like the Dodgers, where expectations are through the roof.
