Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman Not Worried About Wrist Injury

Freddie Freeman was among the three Los Angeles Dodgers players to score a run in Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco Giants, with his coming after legging out a double in the fifth inning.

After sliding into second base, Freeman continued to hold and rub his right wrist during his time on the bases. He was checked on by a trainer after scoring and remain in the game.

“I’m OK,” Freeman said after the Dodgers’ 7-3 loss. “I jammed it sliding into second base when I put it down. The pain went away as the game went along. I was a little worried for a second, but all good now. I’m all fine. No worries, no concerns.

“I didn’t get treatment or anything after the game. All good.”

Working in Freeman’s favor is the Dodgers have an off day Monday before facing the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim for the Freeway Series.

The team is also off Thursday for the seventh annual Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala.

But as for matters on the field, the Dodgers are just 13-18 since May 15, when a three-game set against the Minnesota Twins began. They also have won just six of 10 series during that span.

“It’s not the ideal situation right now,” Freeman acknowledged. “I mean, it’s hard to even put in words. Every day we come in with the right attitude, right mindset, and by the end of the day, it’s another loss right now.

“So it’s one of these trying points to the season where you got to grind and keep coming every single day to show up and expect to win. That’s the thing. And our team is way too good to keep going like this and go through this stretch.

“We know we’re better than this and it’s hard to keep talking about it. We got to start doing it on Tuesday.”

Freeman recently went hitless in two consecutive games but has otherwise enjoyed another productive season thus far, batting .324/.404/.554 with 25 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs and 46 RBI. Freeman leads the National League in doubles.

Freddie Freeman: Dodgers simply ‘need to play better’

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Freeman and several players have expressed being surprised by the team’s prolonged slump. In Freeman’s estimation, there’s a simple correction to get the Dodgers back on track.

“You just got to win,” he said. “The last few days we scored two runs, you’re not going to win combining two runs in the games. So as an offense, we got to take it upon ourselves to score more runs, and we got to start doing that on Tuesday. And there’s no like, this needs to happen, this needs to happen.

“I think as a collective whole, we just need to play better.”
