After getting off to a historic start, the Los Angeles Dodgers carried that success over into their first road series of the season and swept the Colorado Rockies. Behind strong pitching and a high-powered offense, they were 8-2 heading into a four-game set at Busch Stadium.
Their bats suddenly went cold and pitchers struggled, which led to the St. Louis Cardinals sweeping the four-game series. The Dodgers scored a combined five runs through the first three games; they were shut out in the second matchup.
Thursday saw L.A. emerge from their offensive slump but sloppy defense let them down. Finishing with a disappointing 3-4 record on their road trip, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke with excitement over returning to Dodger Stadium, via Joe Harris of MLB.com:
“I’m looking forward to getting back home,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “That’s a good ballclub over there. They pitched us well. We came out well with good intensity. After that first inning, I thought we were in good shape, but we’ve got to play nine innings.”
The Milwaukee Brewers are awaiting the Dodgers for the start of a 2018 National League Championship Series rematch. Milwaukee enters play Friday having been swept themselves and on a three-game losing streak.
Last season the Dodgers and Brewers split four games at Dodger Stadium. One month prior to that series, the Dodgers took two of three at Miller Park coming out of the All-Star break.
Friday marks the start of a six-game homestand for the Dodgers. They are 5-2 at Dodger Stadium thus far in 2019.
