The Los Angeles Dodgers benefitted from another incredible season from Freddie Freeman, who was once again a key member of their lineup before receiving recognition from MLB at the end of the season.

Freeman started out hot when he hit .292/.377/.451 from Opening Day though the end of April. Of his 33 hits, 10 went for extra bases.

He then earned NL Player of the Month honors for his unbelievable month of May as he batted .400/.462/.722 over 28 games, going 46-for-115, with six home runs, 26 RBI, 28 runs scored, 17 doubles, one triple and four stolen bases.

Freeman hit safely in all but two games in May, racking up a 20-game hitting streak from May 10 through June 2. His 24 extra-base hits set a Dodgers franchise record, surpassing the old mark set by Babe Herman (July 1930) and Duke Snider (June 1954).

The 34-year-old played in all but one game during the 2023 regular season, with his only day off coming in the game following their NL West clinching matchup.

On the season, Freeman hit .331/.410/.567 with 29 home runs, 131 runs scored, and 102 RBI while setting a Dodgers franchise record with 59 doubles and eclipsing the 200-hit mark for the first time in his career, totaling 211 hits.

He ended up finishing third behind Atlanta Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. and current Dodgers teammate Mookie Betts for the National League MVP Award, but he still received First Team All-MLB Honors.

Freddie Freeman 2023 highlight

Arguably, Freeman’s best game came on July 22 when the Dodgers trounced the Texas Rangers in a 16-3 win at Globe Life Field.

Opening up with a single in the first inning, Freeman followed it up with a solo home run in the top of the third. With a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning, he smashed a two-run shot to extend the rout.

His final hit was another single in the eighth, bringing his final line to 4-for-5 with two home runs with three RBI and three runs scored.

In total, Freeman tallied six four-hit games during the 2023 season.

2024 outlook

Entering his third season with the Dodgers, Freeman figures to be at the heart of the team’s lineup.

Although it’ll be a huge bar to top after his 2023 season, Freeman’s remarkable consistency and the surrounding talent should keep him in opportune spots. The addition of Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández bring a ton more power, with more consistency up and down.

After a career-high in runs scored (131), Freeman’s on-base ability will have him in a spot to post similar production.
