Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Commends Max Muncy For Providing Spark To Lineup

With their win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers successfully completed their third sweep of the season and first at Coors Field since 2010.

To do so, the Dodgers overcame an early 6-1 deficit by reaching double-digits in runs scored for the third consecutive game. Max Muncy led the way with another solid showing at the plate, slugging two home runs while driving in a game-high four RBI.

With the performance, Muncy increased his home run total to nine on the season — putting him in a three-way tie for the Dodgers’ lead with Matt Kemp and Yasmani Grandal.

After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts praised Muncy for his ability to provide a spark to the middle of the lineup, via Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

“Every time [he’s] in the box, it feels like he’s going to get a hit,” said manager Dave Roberts. “The energy he brings in the middle of the lineup or top of the order, he’s productive.”

Muncy’s breakout season is nothing short of unprecedented. He began the year with Triple-A Oklahoma City and was only initially called up to serve as insurance at third base while Justin Turner remained on the disabled list.

Muncy has since earned a regular spot in the lineup at his natural first base position and is making the most of his opportunities.

In 38 games this season, the 27-year-old is posting career highs in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.243), on-base percentage (.349), slugging (.551) and extra-base hits (15).

After posting a modest .732 on-base plus slugging in April, Muncy has seemingly progressed with each passing month. He followed up in May with a superb .932 OPS over 84 plate appearances and is already at 1.189 in June.
