Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Surprised Tony Gonsolin With Custom Suit For All-Star Game Red Carpet

After the Los Angeles Dodgers had Mookie Betts and Trea Turner voted by fans among the 2022 MLB All-Star Game starters, Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin were named to the National League roster as well when reserves and pitchers were unveiled.

The All-Star selection is Gonsolin’s first of his career and fulfills a personal goal he set heading into the 2022 season. The right-hander is the first Dodgers starting pitcher to begin a season 11-0 since Alex Wood did so in 2017, which was an All-Star campaign for the southpaw as well.

If not for Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara having a historic first half and Kershaw potentially making his first career All-Star Game start at Dodger Stadium, Gonsolin would arguably be the frontrunner to receive the honor.

Gonsolin nevertheless is looking forward to the experience and revealed to Kirsten Watson on SportsNet LA that was treated to a custom suit fitting courtesy of Kershaw prior to All-Star Game rosters being set:

“Kershaw was nice enough to get me a suit just in case I did get selected, so that’s all taken care of. … I don’t know if he’s done that in the past, but it felt pretty special to have Clayton approach me and say, ‘Hey, they’re going to come in and do your measurements for a suit tomorrow. What time do you usually get here?’ I was like, I don’t know, between 12 and 1. He was like, ‘OK, they’re going to b here from 1 to 2, go in any time and do it.’ I was like, what for? And he kind of just walked away. But yeah, I was pretty fortunate for them to do that.”

Gonsolin last was dressed up for the sixth annual Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala in June.

“Prefer to be more laid back but every now and then it’s OK,” he told DodgerBlue.com of being in formal attire.

Now Gonsolin will be in a custom-made red suit for the All-Star Game red carpet that is being set up at the L.A. Live complex in downtown.

Gonsolin focused on World Series goal

Now that he’s bound for the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium, Gonsolin’s next goal is helping the Dodgers win the World Series.

“That happened, and the next goal is to win a championship,” Gonsolin said this week.
