Cody Bellinger’s Shorts Suit Stands Out At Dodgers Blue Diamond Gala

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation held their sixth annual Blue Diamond Gala and saw a record-breaking $3.6 million raised to support the organization’s mission to improve education, healthcare, homelessness, and social justice.

The event, aptly nicknamed “The Party for LA,” was attended by current and former Dodgers players, manager Dave Roberts, coaches, front office members, broadcasters and celebrities wearing their best attire.

While nearly every player and member of the Dodgers organization went in traditional suits and clothing, Cody Bellinger was the talk of the event for wearing a shorts suit.

“I went with the shorts,” Bellinger told DodgerBlue.com. “It’s a hot day, you know? It’s Armani, super comfortable clothing, flexible. I like to be comfortable, so it just fit perfect.”

Bellinger’s choice received some mixed reactions, but most of them were positive and supportive of the shorts.

“Oh, Belli probably,” Caleb Ferguson said when asked who the best dressed was. “I don’t know what happened to the rest of his pants, but interesting outfit.”

Justin Turner was also happy to see his teammate went with the non-traditional suit and defended it as “100% acceptable.”

“He had two choices, and one was the shorts suit,” Turner said. “I’m so pumped he did the shorts suit.”

Kourtney Turner also added her support for the shorts: “They’re tailored, right? I think it’s Armani. I love that.”

Kirsten Watson said she was excited to see what Eddy Alvarez, Mookie Betts, David Price and Freddie Freeman were wearing, but she also gave credit to Bellinger for going outside of the box.

“And I’m going to be honest, Cody, he did something different,” Watson said. “It’s bold wearing a shorts suit. That’s amazing. To take the risk, he gets 10 points for that because it fits well and looks good.”

Reaction to Bellinger shorts suit not all positive

While Bellinger’s outfit was mostly popular, not everyone shared their appreciation for the shorts.

“I’m not into it, but he’s an active player,” Jerry Hairston Jr. said. “Usually active players can get away with whatever they want. As a former player, I couldn’t get away with it.”

Prior to facing the Cleveland Guardians on Friday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also joked Bellinger was the worst dressed player at the Gala.

As Roberts was finishing his thoughts, Bellinger walked into the dugout and overheard his manager’s statement, which prompted the center fielder to defend his outfit choice, shouting “I was feeling fresh!”
