Dodgers Minor League Outfielder Geremias Valencia Suspended For Positive PED Test

Major League Baseball announced Los Angeles Dodgers Minor League outfielder Geremias Valencia was among three players suspended for violating the MiLB drug prevention and treatment program.

Valencia received a 60-game suspension without pay due to testing positive for Clostebol, a performance-enhancing substance. Valencia was on the Dodgers’ Dominican Summer League roster and is removed as the team is on the verge of playing Opening Day.

Valencia spent last year in the Dominican Summer League batting, .212/.336/.354 with five doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI over 38 games.

Also suspended for 60 gams without pay were Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League infielder Rayber Romero and Colorado Rockies Minor League pitcher Stalyn Sanchez, both of whom tested positive for Stanozolol, a PED that violates the Minor League drug prevention and treatment program.

Romero is on the Pirates’ Florida Complex League roster, and Sanchez is part of the Rockies’ Dominican Summer League team.

A total of 26 players have been suspended this year under the Minor League drug program. That exceeds the six players that have been suspended under MLB’s rules against performance-enhancing substances.

Last Dodgers Minor League suspensions

In June 2020, Dodgers Minor League pitchers Reza Aleaziz and Juan Idrogo were each suspended after testing positive for a banned substance.

Aleaziz received a 50-game suspension without pay for ingesting Amphetamine, a stimulant. The Dodgers selected Aleaziz out of Oklahoma State in the 28th round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

Idrogo received a 72-game suspension without pay after testing positive for gw501516, a performance-enhancing substance. Idrogo joined the Dodgers organization when he signed in July 2019 during the international signing period.
