Watch: Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts, Grand Marshals Start Busch Light Clash At L.A. Coliseum

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was part of NASCAR history as he was among the grand marshals for the 2022 Busch Light Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

In addition to Roberts, the full list of grand marshals for the Busch Light Clash included Eric Dickerson, Jim Abbott, Misty May-Treanor, Greg Townsend, Jeff Gordon, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart.

The group was individually introduced at the Peristyle end of the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, with Roberts among those to receive the loudest ovation.

The grand marshals then announced the customary, “Gentlemen, start your engines,” to kick of the Busch Light Clash. The race represented the first ever NASCAR event at the Coliseum.

Roberts, who previously served as a grand marshal for the 34th annual Kingdom Day Parade in 2019, had previously voiced excitement to attend his first NASCAR race.

“I can’t wait,” Roberts said in a video release. “It’s going to be a day to remember and I can’t wait to see all you Dodger fans there.”

Joey Logano wins Busch Light Clash

The 150-lap exhibition was won by Joey Logano, who battled throughout the race with Kyle Busch at the front of the pack before taking him over late.

Logano took the lead on lap 116 just before a caution flag for an accident involving Kyle Larson and Justin Haley. Logano remained in first place for the final 35 laps finished .877 seconds ahead of Busch to earn the victory.

Logano won a $1.967 million purse in what was the first time the Busch Light Clash was held outside of Daytona International Speedway. It also marked the first competitive race for NASCAR’s Next Generation car — the most revolutionary version of the stock car in the sport’s history — in the Cup Series.
