Dodgers News: Vin Scully To Call 4 Spring Training Games On Sportsnet La

The Los Angeles Dodgers began Spring Training on Friday morning with pitchers and catchers reporting to Camelback Ranch. Along with updates on the progress of players who are recovering from their respective surgery, came details of SportsNet LA’s 2016 Spring Training coverage.

The exclusive home of the Dodgers will broadcast 16 Cactus League games this year, including games on every Saturday and Sunday in March. SportsNet LA will also air the three-game Freeway Series (March 31-April 2) that concludes the exhibition schedule.

SportsNet LA’s slate of Cactus League broadcasts features games against the Kansas City Royals, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.

Dodgers Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully will be on the call for four Spring Training games, including the Freeway Series.

Scully previously said he’s open to expanding his travel schedule ever so slightly in 2016, which will be his final season in the broadcast booth.

Included in that is potentially traveling to San Francisco for the Dodgers’ final regular season games against the Giants (Sept. 30-Oct. 2).

Joe Davis is scheduled to make his debut with the Dodgers on March 19 when Los Angeles squares off against the Chicago White Sox. Davis will call 50 road games during the regular season and is widely viewed as the heir apparent to Scully.

Charley Steiner will also handle the play-by-play duties throughout Spring Training and will be joined by Nomar Garciaparra, Orel Hershiser and Rick Monday.

SportsNet LA will televise the Dodgers’ first Cactus League game on March 3 against the White Sox. The network’s Spring Training coverage begins with “Access SportsNet: Dodgers” on Friday night at 7 p.m. PT. “Backstage: Dodgers” will have its third season premiere on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. PT.
