The Los Angeles Dodgers sent Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates to begin their rehab assignments on Tuesday with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets.
Both pitchers ended up working a scoreless inning for the Comets and look poised to make another appearance soon.
Yates took over in the sixth inning and did not allow a hit while striking out one and walking a batter. He threw 21 pitches, 13 of which were strikes.
Yates started his outing by getting Miles Mastrobuoni to fly out to left field, then struck out Leo Rivas. Spencer Packard walked before Samad Taylor flied out to right field, ending the outing for Yates.
Scott followed Yates by entering in the seventh inning, where he struck out two in a scoreless frame. Like Yates, he did not allow a hit, but did walk a batter. The left-hander threw 16 pitches, 10 of which were strikes.
Scott opened his outing by getting Rhylan Thomas to ground out to second base. Victor Robles, who is also on a rehab assignment, followed by striking out. After a walk to Harry Ford, Leody Taveras struck out to end Scott’s night.
Scott and Yates are both expected to return to the Dodgers around the end of August, providing some much-needed reinforcements to a bullpen that has struggled in high-leverage moments recently.
Michael Kopech also on rehab assignment
In addition to Yates and Scott, Michael Kopech is also on a rehab assignment with the Comets, which began on Aug. 14.
Kopech has thrown 1.2 innings in two outings thus far, allowing three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Although Kopech has seemingly become fond of three, all of the damage came in his first rehab outing when he only pitched 0.2 innings and allowed all three runs. Kopech’s next outing was much better as he allowed one hit in a scoreless inning while striking out two and walking one.
His timeline remains behind Scott and Yates, but he could also be an option to return before the end of August if things go well. However, the Dodgers may prefer to wait until rosters expand in September.
