Andrew Friedman Confident Damon Jones Will Fit In ‘Really Well’ With Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers reshuffled their front office this week as Brandon Gomes was promoted to general manager and Alex Slater was elevated to vice president and assistant general manager.

In addition to promotions within their baseball operations, the Dodgers hired Damon Jones from the Washington Football Team as vice president, assistant general manager and baseball legal counsel.

Jones brings with him over 20 years of experience as a sports, entertainment and media attorney. He spent the last two seasons as general counsel for the Washington Football Team, and prior to that, served as the Washington Nationals’ senior vice president and general counsel.

“Stan Kasten worked with Damon in Washington, and a number of people here and at MLB have always spoken really highly of him,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said of hiring Jones.

“I had not met him. He actually helped us on an arbitration case a couple years ago, after he had left the Nationals, so we started the dialogue of trying to figure out if something made sense. He’s actually from here, played baseball at Santa Barbara, and so that conversation and dialogue kind of continued.

“He went to Washington Football Team and in the last three or four months, we started talking more and more. Obviously we’ve lost a number of people through permission requests, which invariably kind of happens each and every year, and as much as we can, we promote from within.

“But we felt this was a unique opportunity to bring someone in from the outside that we felt could really impact us. With negotiations, there are a number of things he’s going to bring from baseball experience and feel, which will be additive and really helpful.

“And then you couple that with his legal background and a lot of things that come up for us on a daily basis, that background will also be really helpful.

“We’re excited about adding him to the team. Not just for his qualifications, but also the type of human. I think he’s going to fit in really well within our culture and continue to enhance it.”

Dodgers promote McDaniel, Albert

Also this week, the Dodgers promoted Brandon McDaniel to vice president of player performance, and Thomas Albert to head athletic trainer.

McDaniel is entering his 10th season with the Dodgers and more recently was their director of player performance from 2019-2021. Albert is entering his 11th professional season and spent the past six seasons (2016-2021) as the Dodgers’ assistant athletic trainer.
