Dodgers Highlights: Trayce Thompson & J.D. Martinez Home Runs; Chris Taylor’s Diving Catch Against Diamondbacks

Clayton Kershaw turned in a vintage performance and Trayce Thompson had a career night to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 10-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kershaw allowed just one run and collected nine strikeouts as he got through six efficient innings. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts removed the left-hander at just 76 pitches because Kershaw is due to face the Diamondbacks again next week.

Although Kershaw’s performance was impressive, Thompson overshadowed him by hitting three home runs and finishing with a career-high eight RBI. Thompson’s first home run was a grand slam against Madison Bumgarner to give the Dodgers a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Thompson then hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and solo shot in the eighth.

Thompson was treated to a Dodger Stadium curtain call after his third home run.

“It’s a good month right there. He can just sit on that for a while,” Kershaw joked. “He’s the best, man. So I’m just happy for him. It was a great way to get going for the season.”

Not to be totally outdone, J.D. Martinez slugged his first home run with the Dodgers by going to the opposite field for a leadoff blast in the seventh inning.

Trayce Thompson sets MLB record

Thompson became the first player in MLB history to have at least eight RBI in his first game of the season since that became an official stat in 1920.
