The Los Angeles Dodgers have enjoyed a solid start to the shortened 2020 season, defeating the San Francisco Giants, 8-1, on Opening Day, and then doing one better on Friday night, by cruising to a 9-1 win.
The Dodgers have one of the deepest and most potent lineups in all of baseball, and they showed why in their latest victory, scoring in six of the eight innings they hit in. Seven of the nine starters recorded at least one hit.
Max Muncy got the offense started early in the bottom of the first inning when he slugged his first home run of the season, a solo shot to right off Giants starter Tyler Anderson. He joined Kiké Hernandez as the only Dodgers players to leave the ballpark on this young season.
It wasn’t long before Muncy took the team lead though, as he went the other way in the sixth inning for another solo shot to give him two on the night and the season.
Justin Turner and Corey Seager were also among those to have big nights at the plate for the Dodgers. Turner went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a walk and two RBI.
Seager reached base four times, going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored to continue his hot streak when counting the team’s exhibition games.
Mookie Betts finally got in on the action when he drove in a run with a single in the seventh inning, accounting for his first RBI as a member of the Dodgers. Overall on the night, L.A. had 13 hits and eight walks.
Stripling shines in season debut
Ross Stripling earned himself a spot in the Dodgers’ starting rotation when David Price opted out of the 2020 season, and his 2020 debut was a good one.
In seven innings pitched, Stripling allowed four hits and a run while striking out seven with no walks on 92 pitches. He was in control all night against a pedestrian Giants lineup, earning himself a victory to begin the year.
