Dodgers Highlights: Matt Kemp, Kiké Hernandez Hit Home Runs Off Madison Bumgarner

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued with their strong stretch of play on Saturday night, toppling Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants in a 3-1 victory. It put them in position to complete a series sweep at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.

As has often been the case this season, Matt Kemp provided an early spark. His solo home run off Bumgarner in the bottom of the second inning gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. The homer was Kemp’s 12th this season, tying him with Cody Bellnger for second on the team.

Bumgarner stranded the bases loaded but couldn’t keep the Dodgers off the board in the fifth, which proved costly as the Giants had tied the game in the top of the inning.

Austin Barnes led off with a single, then was sacrificed into scoring position by Alex Wood’s bunt. After Chris Taylor grounded out, Kiké Hernandez connected on a two-run homer.

Hernandez finished the night with 15 hits (five doubles; four home runs) in 34 career plate appearances against Bumgarner. The Giants ace got through six innings but allowed the three runs and faced some stress by way of issuing four walks in the outing.

He’s yet to earn a win in his three starts this season and the Giants have now lost each of the contests. Meanwhile, Alex Wood might be trending in the opposite direction.

Wood limited the Giants to one run on four hits in 5.2 innings, earning his second victory of the season. He started Saturday’s game by retiring the first five batters faced. Wood didn’t allow a hit until Mac Williamson’s leadoff single in the fifth inning.
