After dropping the first three games of the series, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Miami Marlins 6-1 on Thursday led by a strong pitching performance and a big offensive inning.

The Marlins got on the board first with a solo home run in the first inning off the bat of Jazz Chisholm Jr. The score remained 1-0 until the fourth inning when Chris Taylor continued his All-Star season with a single to drive in Matt Beaty that tied the game.

Then in the fifth inning, the Dodgers offense exploded for five runs. Beaty started the scoring with the Dodgers’ fourth straight single to open the inning that drove in Urias. That was all the Dodgers needed to win the game, but that didn’t stop them from adding on.

With the bases-loaded and nobody out, the Marlins relieved starter Sandy Alcantara with David Hess. After Hess got one out, Will Smith hit a sacrifice fly that was just short of a grand slam to bring in Mookie Betts.

The Dodgers then had runners at the corners and Taylor came through again with an RBI-double off the third-base bag. He and Beaty ended up scoring on a fielding error by Chishholm Jr.

Julio Urias made the start for L.A. and pitched seven innings with nine strikeouts while only allowing one run on five hits and two walks. He was relieved by Blake Treinen and Garrett Cleavinger, who combined to pitch two shutout innings and finish the game.

Urias leads MLB in Wins

After the game, manager Dave Roberts said the story of the game was Julio Urias, who stepped up when the Dodgers needed him most by giving them length with a tired bullpen. Urias earned his major-league-leading 11th win in the victory.

“It’s important,” Roberts said. “The name of the game is still to win baseball games and when he takes the mound, the win/loss shows that when he takes the mound, we’ve won a large majority of his games so he should be proud of that.”
