The Los Angeles Dodgers came from behind Sunday afternoon to defeat the Colorado Rockies, 2-1, and head into the postseason on a five-game winning streak.

There was nothing left for the Dodgers to accomplish in the season finale at Coors Field, which largely was used to celebrate Charlie Blackmon retiring.

Plenty of attention also was on Shohei Ohtani and his outside chance to overtake San Diego Padres’ Luis Arraez for the National League batting title and thus triple crown. However, Ohtani went 1-for-4 and fell short of the first NL triple crown since Joe Medwick in 1937.

Arraez became the first player in MLB history to win three consecutive batting titles with three different teams.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers were headed toward a loss until Chris Taylor hit an opposite-field home run to tie the game in the eighth inning. Taylor closed out the regular season on a 9-for-19 stretch and hit .297/.343/.359 since the All-Star break.

One-out singles by Austin Barnes and Ohtani put two on and led to a double steal that ultimately paid off for the Dodgers. With both runners in scoring position, Seth Halvorsen stumbled as he went to deliver a pitch, and the balk brought Barnes in.

Ohtani finished with 59 stolen bases in a likely NL MVP season. Ohtani could’ve reached 60 stolen bases but had one taken away Saturday on a scoring change because of a balk.

Landon Knack allowed just one run over four innings after entering the game following Anthonby Banda as an opener.

Dodgers pitchers set new saves record

Edgardo Henriquez converted the save opportunity, becoming the 14th different pitcher to close out a game this season, which extended a new Dodgers franchise record. Justin Wrobleski was the 13th Dodgers pitcher with a save on Saturday.

The Dodgers and 2021 Tampa Bay Rays now share the MLB record of most pitchers to record at least one save in a single season at 14.
