Even with the New Year having arrived and the start of Spring Training fast approaching, a slew of notable free agents still remain available.
The group is headlined by Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker, and also includes the likes of Cody Bellinger, Alex Bregman, Eugenio Suárez and Framber Valdez, among others.
Despite public declarations of expecting a modest offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers made a splash by signing Edwin Díaz to a record-setting contract. All the while they have been connected to the likes of Bichette, Bellinger and Tucker.
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Dodgers remain a potential landing spot for Tucker as his free agency continues to linger:
The Dodgers are also lurking as a possibility for Tucker, who would make the two-time defending World Series champions even more dangerous as they take aim at a threepeat.
The Dodgers also still have interest in a potential reunion with Bellinger:
The two New York teams seem like the obvious fits for Bellinger, though the Angels, Blue Jays and Dodgers remain in the mix.
Last month it was reported the Dodgers had a preference of signing Tucker to a contract that was similar to Bregman’s deal with the Boston Red Sox heading into the 2025 season.
Bregman’s contract with the Red Sox was only for three years and it included an opt-out clause after the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Bregman opted out of the deal after playing one year with the Red Sox and now is a free agent for the second consecutive offseason.
Meanwhile, signing Bellinger could come with hurdles considering his history with the Dodgers. Once a former top prospect in the organization and eventual Rookie of the Year and MVP winner, Bellinger’s career with the Dodgers ended in unceremonious fashion as he was non-tendered and became a free agent.
Bellinger or Tucker a better fit for Dodgers?
The Dodgers would stand to benefit from signing either Bellinger or Tucker, and contract terms could ultimately dictate which of the two makes the most sense for the team.
What Tucker may provide offensively, Bellinger makes up for with versatility that allows him to play all three outfield positions in addition to first base.
