The Los Angeles Dodgers began their homestand with a 7-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds, led in part by Andy Pages hitting two home runs off Hunter Greene.
Pages provided the Dodgers with a lead in the third inning by hitting his 22nd home run of the year. He then extended it with a two-run homer in the fifth.
“Working on some things mechanically, making adjustments,” Pages said of his recent success through a translator.
“We obviously know how long the season is, so trying to make those adjustments in season, going through some of those ruts, and trying to make those adjustments to get better and have better at-bats.”
Pages has seen his offensive production drop a bit in the second half, but he continues to do damage at Dodger Stadium. In 64 games at the Dodgers’ ballpark, the 24-year-old is hitting .312/.361/.602 with 13 doubles, 18 home runs and 51 RBI.
“Yeah, I’m very comfortable here,” Pages said. “But I’m very comfortable in other stadiums, too. It’s just lucky that the home runs have come here.”
Pages knew he was slated for a bigger role with the Dodgers this season and used that as motivation to improve in all areas of his game. In addition to his success at the plate, Pages has played excellent defense in the outfield.
“Yeah, I think going into the season, I knew how much I had to work on my defense,” Pages said. “I knew how important it was for me to work on that and work through it.
“But I’d be able to help and I’m grateful to help the team in any spot that they need me in.”
Dave Roberts praises Andy Pages
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was pleased with the at-bats he saw from Pages, especially against a top-tier pitcher like Greene.
“Man, what a performance by Andy,” Roberts began. “Hunter is one of the better pitchers in baseball, and certainly the National League, it’s high-octane stuff. Andy had a huge night.
“I thought that first at-bat, just winning some pitches, getting to a slider and hit a really good pitch, 3-2, and then the first pitch slider. And even that last at-bat against Phillips, I thought he had a great at-bat, almost missed his third home.
“So it’s just really good to see that at-bat quality from Andy, and we needed it. And just overall, a really well-played baseball game.”
