Dodgers Add Tim Neverett To Broadcast Team, Sign Charley Steiner To Extension In Reduced Role

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that they have added Tim Neverett to their broadcast team while also signing Charley Steiner to an extension in a reduced role.

Neverett will call a select number of Dodger games on both television and radio, handling play-by-play duties on SportsNet LA during Joe Davis’ national assignments and on AM 570 in place of Charley Steiner, who has requested to cut back on his broadcast schedule.

The 52-year-old expressed his excitement to join an already talented broadcast team.

“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to join such an established and talented group of radio and television broadcasters, as well as the gifted production personnel with the Dodgers,” Neverett said. “My family and I are thrilled to be able to be part of the Dodger family and be back in the National League. I am very much looking forward to getting started, renewing old acquaintances and making new ones.”

Neverett previously worked as the radio play-by-play voice of the Boston Red Sox for the past three seasons. Before that, he did the same thing on both radio and television for the Pittsburgh Pirates for seven years.

He is very familiar with the National League West division as he also spent four years working for FSN Rocky Mountain, which included time as a studio host for Colorado Rockies games in 2008. He also served the network as a play-by-play announcer for Rockies games, college football, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, arena football, and track and field.

Steiner’s extension keeps him with the organization through the 2021 season. The 69-year-old explained why he wants to cut back on his schedule a bit.

“I am thankful to Mark, Stan, Tucker and Lon for their understanding of my desire to cut back on my schedule and extending my contract to allow me to continue doing what I love,” Steiner said.

“Father Time, Mother Nature, and the road have never lost a battle. I’m just trying to keep pace with those three, and hopefully getting to call the final out of the Dodgers’ next championship. Tim will be a great addition to the Dodger broadcast, and I am so thrilled to have him join the Dodger family.”

Steiner is entering his 15th season with the Dodgers and has been involved in baseball for over three decades.
