When the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Trevor Bauer to a record-setting three-year contract this past February, it was met with criticism by some because of past behavior on social media.
The right-hander vowed to learn from those mistakes and went on to enjoy early success with his new organization. However, he has not pitched in a game since June 28 due to sexual assault allegations.
Bauer was placed on paid administrative leave at the start of July and has remained on the restricted list ever since. Such has required approval from the Players Association, who recently agreed to extend his leave for an eighth time through Sept. 10.
With less than a month remaining in the regular season, the odds of Bauer pitching again this year are unfavorable. “I don’t know,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts answered when asked if Bauer will return to the mound in 2021.
“I think right now my focus is just on the guys here. I haven’t really put too much thought into that. I really haven’t.”
As the Dodgers place their focus on catching the San Francisco Giants in the National League West standings, there hasn’t been much discussion of Bauer among players and coaches.
“No, not at all,” Roberts said. “We’re in a good place and playing good baseball. The way we’ve attacked it is kind of focusing on today and who’s in the room. That’s kind of the best recipe.”
Despite the Pasadena Police Department concluding its probe into the matter, Bauer still faces the possibility of criminal charges and remains the subject of an investigation by MLB.
Regardless of whether or not Bauer is charged of a crime, commissioner Rob Manfred would still have the authority to suspend him under the league’s joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy.

Amid the wait for possible disciplinary action that may come from Manfred, some within the league believe Bauer could face a suspension that lasts up to two years.
