Clayton Kershaw & Kiké Hernández Remain On Dodgers’ Radar

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been the most active team around Major League Baseball this offseason, acquiring several top talents to round out their strong roster.

With the start of Spring Training fast approaching, a few pieces remain on the free agent market, that includes Clayton Kershaw. The veteran lefty has maintained his intention is to re-sign with the Dodgers.

“We’ve been in touch with Clayton, and a lot of it is seeing how he’s feeling throwing before we pick up those conversations,” said general manager Brandon Gomes at DodgerFest. “He is throwing and starting to get in the swing of it, so our expectation is to have more conversations at an in-depth level soon.”

In an emotional speech at Dodger Stadium to celebrate the team’s World Series title, Kershaw screamed “Dodger for life” and Gomes is in line with that thought. The Dodgers want Kershaw back, and there is plenty of belief a reunion will happen.

“I would hope so,” Gomes answered when asked if Kershaw would be part of Dodgers Spring Training. “We’ll know a lot more as these conversations progress.”

Kershaw underwent surgeries on his left foot and left knee during the offseason. One to address a bone spur in his toe and the other for a torn meniscus in the knee.

The Dodgers have space for Kershaw, but his progress and, ultimately, his preference will be what determines his outlook for the season.

“I think a lot of it is dependent on how the throwing program goes and making sure he feels like he’s set up for success,” Gomes added. “Those will all come out, hopefully, in the next few weeks.”

Also outstanding is the status of fellow Dodgers free agent Kiké Hernández. The 33-year-old has been vocal about how postseason baseball is an addiction for him, and that remaining with Dodgers is a priority at this point of his career.

“Obviously, we’d never close the door to Kiké. I think a lot of it is just making sure he and his family feel it’s the best position for him,” Gomes said.

“We’ll have those conversations, but it’s really what is the best thing for Kiké and his family from our standpoint.”

Dodgers players vying for Kiké Hernández to return

Recently re-signed to a multi-year contract, Teoscar Hernández projects to be a mainstay in the Dodgers lineup. He gelled incredibly well with fans, the team and delivered in big moments.

He recently spoke about Kiké, and Teoscar is hopeful that a deal gets done to bring him back.
