Best Dodgers Plays Of 2020 Postseason: No. 5, Corey Seager’s MVP Performances

The Los Angeles Dodgers winning their first World Series since 1988 came with several memorable plays and moments, which DodgerBlue.com has begun ranking. At No. 5 on the list is Corey Seager’s offensive performance throughout the 2020 postseason.

After enjoying a solid regular season, the 26-year-old elevated his game to another level during the playoffs. Seager posted an .821 on-base plus slugging with one home run in seven at-bats against the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Wild Card Series (two games).

In a slightly larger sample size against the San Diego Padres in the NL Division Series, Seager hit a scorching .364/.467/.545 with two doubles over 15 plate appearances (three games).

Seager really began to take off against the Atlanta Braves in the NL Championship Series. Appearing in all seven games, he batted .310/.333/.897 with two doubles, five home runs and 11 RBI en route to NLCS MVP honors.

Then in a World Series matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays, Seager followed up by hitting .400/.556/.700 with two homers and five RBI across 27 plate appearances (six games).

He became the seventh Dodgers player in franchise history to be named World Series MVP, joining Johnny Podres (1955), Larry Sherry (1959), Sandy Koufax (1963 and 1965), Ron Cey and Pedro Guerrero (1981), and Orel Hershiser (1988). Of that group, Cey, Guerrero and Seager are the only non-pitchers.

Moreover, Seager is the eighth player in MLB history to earn MVP honors in the NLCS and World Series in the same year. He went on to set a multitude of additional records, including most home runs (eight) by a shortstop in Major League history in a single October.
