Just before the Los Angeles Dodgers made a seventh consecutive appearance in the postseason last year, Skechers announced the signing of Clayton Kershaw to a multi-year partnership called for him to appear in global marketing campaigns for the brand’s men’s performance and athletic lifestyle footwear that was set to launch in 2020.
Although Kershaw’s debut this season was delayed due to back stiffness, the longtime Dodgers ace is scheduled to be activated off the injured list and start Sunday in the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Coinciding with that, Skechers released three commercials that feature Kershaw and highlight the brand’s Stretch Fit footwear. The series consists of separate ads titled “Batters,” “Mound” and “Armor.” The brand also released behind-the-scenes footage of Kershaw filming.
“When I signed on with Skechers last year, I knew we would be doing something fun that fans would enjoy. This new campaign hits the mark,” Kershaw said.
“A lot has changed since all sports shut down earlier this year. While I’ve missed playing, seeing the fans, and realizing this season will be different, I’m excited to be back on the mound in my new custom Skechers cleats and representing the brand with a sense of humor. We could all use more smiles right now.”
Skechers president Michael Greenberg added: “Fans who have been waiting since March for the return of baseball will love this new spot starring Clayton Kershaw—one of the premier pitchers in the game.

Why Kershaw returns Sunday
In order to be cleared to come off the IL, the Dodgers had Kershaw throw a bullpen session at Minute Maid Park on Tuesday, then another at Chase Field on Thursday. From there the club was considering a return on Sunday or Monday.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said they settled on the series finale against the Diamondbacks for a multitude of reasons. One of which is it pushed Walker Buehler back one day and provided the rest of the rotation with extra rest as well.
“And also Clayton is chomping at the bit to get back and pitch in a Major League game. It just makes sense from every angle,” Roberts said.
